Cordillera’s Last Frontier for Nature Richness

 Apayao is a landlocked province of the Philippines in the Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon. The capital town is Kabugao, but the Capitol building is located in Luna.


The province of Apayao is geographically located at the northernmost tip of the Luzon mainland.It is bounded on the east by the province of Cagayan, on the west by Ilocos Norte and Abra and on the south by Kalinga.

The province is politically subdivided in 7 municipalities. The dialect or language spoken is dominant by Ilocano, followed by Isneg and Tagalog.


The province was called “Cordillera’s Last Frontier for Nature Richness” because has its own virgin forest and its natural attractions, not found in any part of the country.

Apayao province is classified into upper and lower,  is a home of natural wonders and gift of nature awaiting to be rediscover as the next promising tourist destination in the country. From the verdant plains to mountains and hills: The province is a home of clean rivers and water falls: unexplored caves and many other gift of nature.

The places and destinations mention above are just some of the destinations in the province. It gives a competitive advantages among other tourist destinations in the country, the ambiance and natural attractions that are excellent and considered as one of the best in the Philippines.

Unfortunately the tourist turn over in the province remain poor, due to bad impression, that still remain in the image of the place  many years ago. The concern about safety is a big hindrance to make it as a great eco-tourism  destination in the country. One of the main concern is the violent arm group identified in the province way back  during 1980’s and 1990’s; its been known that the influence is almost instinct. How it comes that the negative issues remain in the province?

 Apayao is genuine destination for travelers and adventure seekers, maybe, there’s, a weakness in the part of local tourism department, who needs to provide amenities, accommodations, accessibility and services. The safety is no longer an issue, but they should cure the issue.

The abundance of breathtaking scenery , the locals will benefits and improve their life in terms of tourist arrivals, business will also improve.

The country is looking to the development of the tourism industry, and the suggestion, the Province of Apayao is one of the best  to be a well known tourist destination.

 How to get there?

From Manila, there are two bus lines travelling direct to Junction Luna. in Abulog, Cagayan. The Florida Bus Line and RCJ Bus, The terminal of the two bus lines are located in Sampaloc, Manila. Travel Time from Manila to Junction Luna, is around 12 hours.

From Junction Luna, there are tricycles going to Luna, town proper, Travel time, around 15 minutes.
