A Hidden Paradise
Mactol Falls is one of the three falls in the town of Nagtipunan, Province of Quirino. The other two is the Taigido and Sinabangan Falls. Many of the locals (except the tribe of Ilongot) knows and heard about the three falls but remain unknown sight for the Quirinians because of the location of the place.
The falls is about 50 meters (160 ft.) in height, it fill a basin of cold crystal clear water for about 22 meters (72 ft.) deep.
Presently the area of the basin decreased for more than 50% due to some geological phenomenon like landslide on the upper part of the falls. This due to intense rainfall or maybe by some human activities like deforestation and improper cultivation, that resulted rocks movement from far top of the area that covered part of the basin.
In whatever phenomenon or reason, Mactol Falls remain powerful that can inspires adventure seeker in this undiscovered beauty.
The appreciation to the beauty is not in the falls alone , instead, to the whole place itself.
The whole place is truly blessed natural wonder, untouched paradise, located in the midst of mountains, used to be kept from outside world.
Once again, another solo travelling adventure (with a guide of course) gives a huge advantage taking of complete control of my journey. Having a lot of time for my own self, and learn to rediscover of resourcefulness of my mind as well as the courage not only to be strong but to be vulnerable.
Mactol Falls is the place to immerse yourself on the beauty of the scenery with peacefulness in your inner self. The quiet and serene surrounding gives a greatest revelation about life, the worlds and its glory.
A place of pristine silence, when it blends to the sound of rushing river, it gives a beautiful rhythm.
The place gives the perfect way of adventure, with complete freedom, where you can define things directly.

The clean and refreshing scenery along the trail. is a non stop scenery of unspoiled beauty, lush forest and natural wonder.
Mactol Falls is located in Barangay San Pugo, 22 kilometers from Barangay Pongo in Nagtipunan Town. Going to Baranggay Wasid can be reached by motorcycle. Wasid is used as jump off going to Mactol falls.
From Barangay Wasid, there are three option going to falls, one is pure trekking along the mountains, second is required river crossing and some trekking . and the last one is renting a boat which is so expensive.
Travel/trekking time including the motorcycle ride takes 8-10 hours. Advisable for adventurous soul and those who have mountaineering skill.
Trekking along the riverbank to get into the river made the adventure more memorable and impressible.

Biton river, the upper stream of Buklo river, is one of the tributary of Cagayan River.
Two times river crossing.
Ilongot fisherman along the river bank, offered us a fish to eat, but unfortunately we refused to accept, since we have a pack of food and we are not ready to cook in a primitive way.
There are also some house offered us a coconut juice to drink. Their smile is enough to feel comfortable in the place.
The trail is exhausting, because of the heat of the sun.

This is not planking, this is the proper maneuver from a giant stone to another to avoid slippery or any accident.
Quirino Province hold the promises to be the next leading tourist destination in the country, with its natural and unspoiled beauty, as well as wonderful people.
