The bridge is elevated 31 meters over sea level, is 1.3 coastal bridge that connects the Maharlika Highway from Laoag, Ilocos Norte to the Cagayan Valley Region. It rises along the town’s coastal mountains, which is the starting point of the Cordillera Mountain Range that snakes through Northern Luzon.
Patapat Viaduct is the 5th longest bridge in the Philippines. –

Number 2 is the Candava Viaduct – 5 kilometers
Number 3 is San Juanico Bridge 2.16 Kilometers
Number 4 is Asingan -Sta Maria Bridge 1.4 Kilometers
Number 5 is Patapat Viaduct – 1.3 Kilometers
The Viaduct was unveiled to the public year 1986, under the administration of late President Ferdinand Marcos
It was constructed to solve the problem of land slide in the area, which have caused many vehicular accidents as well as stranded commuters during rainy days.
The Patapat is constructed along the Pasaleng Bay that recognize to the bridge as one of the tourist attraction in Pagupod. The inviting scenery often getting off the commuters from their cars to capture some pictures.
