The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located about 50 kilometers north of the city center of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. The river also called Puerto Princesa Underground River. The City government of Puerto Princesa has managed the National Park since 1992. The park also known as St. Paul Subterranean River National Park or St. Paul Underground River.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is one of the most significant protected area of the Philippines. Designated as National Park on March 26, 1971 at 3,091 hectares. To ensures long term viability, the park extended to 22,202 hectares that includes the entire catchment of the underground river and important areas under proclamation 212 signed on November 16, 1999.

The site also contains a full mountain to sea ecosystem and protects forests that are important to biodiversity conservation. It was inscribed by UNESCO as a WORLD Heritage Site on December 4, 1999.

The park is a representative of Palawan moist forest, which are among the most significant in Asia and it is noted for high levels of local and regional endemism.

The site serves as habitat to numerous endangered rare and endemic wildlife species. A total of 165 species of birds were recorded in the park, this represent 67% of all the total birds and all of the 15 endemic birds species of Palawan. In 1998 there are some 30 mammals species, 19 species of reptiles recorded. There are also 9 species of bats, 2 species of swift lets and whip spider found in the cave, and the sea cow and the hawk-bill sea turtle.

In the coastal area, mangroves, sea grass beds and coral reef be found.

On November 11, 2011 the Puerto Pricesa Underground River was provisionally chosen as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. In the history of mankind, the selection was confirmed on January 28, 2012 that the Puerto Princesa Underground River as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature

The site features a spectacular limestone or karts mountain landscape with one of the most impressive cave system in the world.

The river is more than 24 kilometers long cave, which contains an 8.2 kilometers -long underground section that flow directly to the sea, and is navigational with boat up to 4 kilometers in from the sea.

Going to the main entrance of the cave from the sea shore takes a few minutes walk, its a great place to immerse yourself on the beauty of nature with peacefulness in your inner self.

The boatman cum tour guide is very effective for their script, they will tell you everything you need to know inside the cave in a humorous way, that made every body smile and laugh during the tour.

Regular tour allowed up to 1.5 kilometers from 8.2 kilometers  navigational river length due to some reasons:

*. Getting further  the river tunnels  is getting complicated and narrow, during high tide, the stalactites almost cover the river channels.
*. There are living natural endemics inside the cave that need not to disturb.
*. The Underground River is national treasures that need to conserve  reserve and preserve, in any form damages.
*. Special permit needs to apply from the administration of Underground River in Puerto Princesa City.

Important Reminder:

To control visitors access, the approved carrying capacity of the Underground River a  NO PERMIT, NO ENTRY policy strictly enforced by the Management PPUR. All visitors are required to secure a VISITOR ENTRY PERMIT at the Underground Booking Office before proceeding to the park, visitors are required to present valid identification cards and register prior to the tour at least a month or two. Failure to follow the rules and regulation may not admitted to the park.
The online booking for the PPUR is being finalized and hopefully be operational  this coming September 2012.
